Heritage
The Fano Section preserves highly valuable documentary material dating back to 1173, the main nucleus is made up of the historical archive of the Municipality of Fano, ordered in 1882 by Monsignor Aurelio Zonghi who compiled a repertoire published in installments in 1888. The documentation, mostly relating to municipal magistracies, but also to peripheral bodies of the central power united under the same title, was divided into 10 sections and this subdivision is still maintained. In addition to the nucleus of the ancient municipal archive, it also includes a more recent part deposited at the Section on 23 November 1983, relating to municipal documentation ranging from 1808 to 1945. Of great importance, not only regional, are the 113 Malatesta Codes (years 1367-1463), registers of the Court of the Malatesta Lords of Fano and for about 16 years also of Brescia and Bergamo. It also preserves a rich notarial archive composed of the protocols of Fano, Mondolfo, San Costanzo and Cartoceto, 7 archives of families and individuals and a parchment collection composed of 801 parchments.
