The Malatesta Codes (1367-1463) are one of the most valuable and consulted series of the Municipal Historical Archives of Fano, a collection on deposit at the State Archives Section of Fano since 1983.
These are 113 registers and a miscellaneous envelope, as identified, named and described by Monsignor Aurelio Zonghi, in the first reorganization of the Municipal collection that took place between 1882 and 1888. The archival units that make up the series are actually 125, as sometimes 2 or more registers are included in a single name "Malatesta Code". Code 114 was added to the series at a later time and is described by Monsignor Zonghi in the Appendix to the printed Inventory.
The digitization project, financed with funds from Law 23 December 2014, n. 190 (stability law 2015) 2022-2024, was created between November 2023 and July 2024 and involved all 125 archival units that make up the series.
The archival description on Digital Archive essentially reproduces the printed Inventory by Monsignor Aurelio Zonghi, (A. ZONGHI, Repertory of the Ancient Municipal Archive of Fano compiled by Monsignor Aurelio Zonghi domestic prelate of his holiness Leo XIII, Fano, Tipografia Sonciniana, 1888, pp. 3-161, hereinafter Repertory), currently still used in the study room, updated with regard to the physical description, the state of conservation and the conditions of the material.
In support of the archival descriptions, it was decided to make available the digital scan of the Repertory, for the part relating to the Malatesta Codes, pp. 3-161, hereinafter Repertorio), inserted at the bottom of the series of Malatesta Codes.
