The history of the institute
Established as a Subsection of the State Archives of Fano with Ministerial Decree of 3 December 1955, it has always been located in the rooms of a monumental building belonging to the former monastery of the Fathers of the Oratory of San Filippo Neri, a Congregation founded in Fano in the early 1600s by Girolamo Gabrielli, a member of a noble family from Fano. In 1808, the building ended up in the possession of the State Property Agency, but upon the return of the papal government, it was returned to the Fathers of the Oratory who kept it until 1861 when the assets of the religious Corporations were suppressed and the Municipality of Fano claimed and obtained full and legal ownership.
